The Employer: G4S plc (formerly Group 4 Securicor) is a British multinationalsecurity services company headquartered in Crawley, United Kingdom. It is the world’s largest security company measured by revenues and has operations in around 125 countries.  With over 620,000 employees, it is the world’s third-largest private sector employer.

Background: G4S Utility Services (formerly Accuread) has worked in partnership with Talent Training (UK) LLP since 2008.  The company is committed responding to the ever changing landscape of the utilities market.  Central to this is having a multi-skilled and engaged workforce to react to customer needs.

The Challenge: With the introduction of SMART meters in the UK in 2009, Talent Training was asked to design and deliver a company-wide training programme for all Meter Readers (some 2,000) linked to G4S’s ethos of delivering outstanding customer service as well as support the organisation in developing a new qualification for SMART Meter Installation Engineers.

The Solution: Talent Training worked with key personnel from across the business and designed a bespoke training programme for all field based staff.  The programme was designed around the core values of G4S and underpinned the HR and Leadership Strategy.  The programme was linked to a nationally recognised Diploma in Customer Service and included a series of highly interactive workshops and 1:1 coaching sessions.  It was rolled out across the entire UK throughout 2010/11.

As well as this, Talent Training worked with the L&D Team as well as the Sector Skills Council for Energy & Utilities; EU Skills, to develop the new standards for the SMART Meter Installation qualification.
